  SCJRTN RESCUE

The St. Croix Jack Russell Terrier Network Rescue is supported by the SCJRTN club. We help local Jack Russell's that need to find new homes. We are affiliated with the JRTCA National Rescue, but are mostly self supporting. We work very closely with other local rescuers as well as JRT rescuers in local states. Many of our members have helped out as foster homes and transport.
We receive applications for adoption through the National Rescue. We also get leads from local Vets and club members. We receive many calls about dogs that may need a new home. The first Question We will always ask is if they have contacted their breeder. We will want to know as much about the dog as possible to help determine how to help these owners out. Not all dogs are accepted . Overly aggressive and biting dogs cannot be accepted into the rescue system. IN these cases we try to give the owners honest advice as to what their choices are. We give them suggestions on how to manage this dog. We also will make recommendations to talk with their Vets and a Behavior specialist.
We ask that if we do accept a dog into the rescue system that it be up to date on all shots and spayed or neutered. With the exception of shelter dogs or strays. Once they are in the systems they are immediately Vet checked temperament tested and updated on shots and spayed or neutered. We do ask all owner surrenders to give a donation to rescue.

Our goal in rescue is to place a dog in the best home possible. We will not place a dog just to get it out of the system. We do our best to match up dogs to the right situations. The dogs have already been failed once. Sometimes this means that if someone see's a dog on our web site and decides that is the dog they want, we may decide they are not the right match for that dog. Many dogs that come through rescue cannot be placed in homes with children. If a dog has had any issues with kids it will not be placed in a home with kids, or a home that may have kids in the future. Some dogs have to be only dogs, most applications already have a dog. Some dogs can't be left for long periods, so we look for and applicant who may not work out of the home or a home where someone will not be gone for long periods. Each dog is different and we try to do the best we can placing them.
We charge an adoption fee for all dogs adopted. Each dog is spayed or neutered and up to date on shots ( no exceptions) Each dog comes with a crate and food and some personal items and some are microchipped.

Requirements for JRT adoption are

Take profiler test at www.terrier.com
-you must fill out a JRT rescue application at                                                                   http://www.terrier.com/rescue/rronline.php3
-A fenced in yard or some sort of containment is generally required.
-Children must be 10 and up
-We generally will not send a rescue to a home with cats
-We prefer to place opposite sex dogs in a home with another dog.
-We prefer the applicant to have a good understanding of this breed.

Rescues come in all shapes and sizes, there are no perfect dogs in rescue. Most rescues will come with some sort of baggage. Most of the time these dogs have just been misunderstood in the previous home. Taking on a rescue requires patience and consistency and lots of love.

Many rescues while being saved have many times become the savers themselves. We have had many successful rescues come through the SCJRTN. Each year around the Holidays we receive many Cards and pictures from adoptive families. The Joy on their faces is Testimony enough!
